Ethio Telecom and Awash Bank have introduced new digital finance and device financing services on the Telebirr platform, offering customers access to loans without the need for collateral.
The newly launched service, referred to as “Tilla”, is a small unsecured loan and savings product supported by artificial intelligence to improve accessibility for customers in both rural and urban areas.
According to the announcement, the two institutions have agreed to make loans exceeding Birr 2 billion available annually as part of the new financing initiative.
The services introduced include savings products, individual customer loans, and device financing options designed for small and medium enterprises and merchants. In addition, a new feature allows customers to withdraw cash from Awash Bank ATMs using only their Telebirr accounts.
Ethio Telecom noted that it has previously extended more than Birr 31.6 billion in unsecured digital loans to 15 million customers through Telebirr. These services were provided in collaboration with four partner banks.
The partnership with Awash Bank marks an expansion of Telebirr’s digital financial offerings as the company continues to broaden access to financial services nationwide.
