Abyssinia Bank has officially launched a fully paperless banking service at its Ras Premium Branch.
The new system was inaugurated on Saturday at a ceremony attended by key stakeholders, including the Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Ato Mamo Mehret, who praised the initiative as a promising step forward in enhancing financial services through technology.
The paperless service is designed to offer customers fast and secure banking options. Clients can perform core banking activities—such as transferring money, depositing and withdrawing cash, and opening accounts—either independently or with assistance from bank staff. The system uses biometric verification, including fingerprint and facial recognition, to improve security and reduce time-consuming procedures.
To enhance accessibility, the interface is available in multiple national languages, including Amharic, Afan Oromo, Somali, Tigrinya, Afar, Sidama, and English.
Abyssinia Bank has also introduced cash recycling and bulk deposit machines at selected branches to reduce customer waiting times. According to the bank's CEO, Bekalu Zeleke, plans are underway to roll out the paperless service to all branches nationwide.
The bank emphasized that the new service is aimed at both individuals and the business community, as part of its broader effort to digitalize operations and improve customer experience.
