The National Accreditation Office of Ethiopia is ready to raise awareness in the agricultural, health and industrial sectors according to Araya Fesseha Director General of the ENAO.
Accreditation is a new concept in Ethiopia and requires aggressive promotion to raise awareness amongst stakeholders he said.
The accreditation office has conducted training events in Addis Ababa, and the Amahra and Tigray regional states said Araya. Further training will be done in Dire Dawa, Oromia, and the South regional state.
Accreditation plays an important role in getting acceptance and recognition thorough assessment of conformity to established standard explained Araya.Conformity assessment is the least discriminatory and transparent method to ensure competency although it has yet to be paid due consideration by management, inspection and certifying bodies.
Ethiopian companies usually go abroad to earn accreditation for technical competence at high expense. The ENAO hopes to eliminate such costs by providing the accreditation services in country.
In the year that is has been in operation three companies have applied for accreditation with the ENAO. All three companies failed to meet the standards set by the office and were hence unable to get accreditation said Araya.
