Ethiopia is to host an international conference on oil seeds, pulses and spices to enhance the market access of the various crops raised nationally.
The conference, organized in a collaborative effort by the Ethiopian Ministry of Trade and the Ethiopian Pulses, Oil seeds and Spices Processors Association will be held for three days from the 27th of February at the Sheraton Addis Hotel.
It is expected that the conference will enhance the market opportunities available to Ethiopian exporters according to Haile Berhe, President of the EPOSPEA.The conference is also aimed to create business networking he said.
The association wishes to organize such conferences every year to increase Ethiopia’s role in the sector internationally and build national image said Haile.
The conference will help to open new markets as well as consolidating existing ones and increase the flow of information in the sector allowing all stake holders, including farmers, to benefit according to Tedros Yilma, member of EPOSPEA board.
An estimated 300 participants are expected to take part in the conference to be held under the theme “Ethiopia: The land of Crop Diversity.”
Research papers on the various sub-sectors will be presented followed by discussion forums according to the organizers.
There are more that 150 Ethiopian exporters engaged in the sector pf pulses, oilseeds and spices with 101 being members of the EPOSPEA.
