Immigration and Citizenship Service Collects Over Birr 42.7 Billion in Revenue

The Immigration and Citizenship Service collected more than Birr 42.7 billion in revenue from passport, visa, and other immigration related services during the 2025/26 fiscal year.

Director General Selamawit Dawit said the institution provided services to approximately 7.2 million passengers entering and leaving the country through airports and land border crossings during the reporting period.

The Service also issued more than 1.6 million passports and expanded its service delivery network to 23 branches to improve accessibility across the country.

In addition, immigration and related services were provided to more than one million foreign nationals during the fiscal year.

The Director General said the institution continued strengthening enforcement measures against document fraud and illegal border movements.

A total of 4,883 people, including 433 foreign nationals and 4,450 Ethiopians, were apprehended and held accountable for alleged fraud involving falsified documents.

The Service also took action against 25,407 Ethiopians and 29,606 foreign nationals for illegally entering or leaving the country.

The institution said the expansion of service branches, increased passport issuance and strengthened border control measures contributed to its performance during the 2025/26 fiscal year.
