The Institute of Ethiopian Standards (IES) has launched IES Verifier, a digital application designed to verify standard marks and support product quality assurance.

The application enables users to check product quality information online and identify products that meet recognized standards. It is part of broader efforts to modernize Ethiopia’s trade system and strengthen consumer protection.

The platform is expected to help reduce the circulation of counterfeit and substandard products by allowing the public to verify quality before purchase.

It is also expected to support Ethiopia’s foreign trade by improving trust in locally produced goods and enhancing the competitiveness of Ethiopian products and services in regional and international markets.

The launch also highlighted the importance of national standards in supporting the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area and facilitating smoother trade across the continent.
