The Ministry of Tourism has introduced a visa-free entry arrangement for transit passengers traveling on Ethiopian Airlines, allowing them to stay in Ethiopia for periods ranging from 24 hours to seven days as part of efforts to boost tourism.
The move is aimed at helping Ethiopia make better use of its tourism potential by encouraging transit travelers to explore the country during layovers. The seven-day window is expected to give visitors enough time to travel to different parts of the country and contribute to tourism related revenue.
The arrangement is also expected to make Ethiopia a more attractive destination for short-stay travelers by reducing the cost and inconvenience associated with obtaining a visa.
The new system is expected to support broader efforts to increase tourist activity and strengthen the contribution of the tourism sector to the economy.
