Ethiopia and China have signed a Bilateral Market Access Protocol at the World Trade Organization (WTO) headquarters in Geneva as part of Ethiopia’s ongoing accession process to the organization.

The agreement was signed by Tsegab Kebebew, Ethiopia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, and Li Yongjie, China’s Permanent Representative to the WTO.

The signing follows a period of technical negotiations and discussions between the two countries aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and advancing Ethiopia’s integration into the global trading system.

According to Ethiopia’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, the protocol concludes the Ethiopia - China bilateral market access negotiations on trade in goods and services under the WTO accession framework. The adoption of the agreement brings Ethiopia closer to completing its remaining bilateral negotiations and finalizing its multilateral commitments in preparation for full membership.
