The Federal Public Procurement and Property Authority reported that more than Birr 308 billion worth of procurement was facilitated through the electronic procurement system in the 2024/25 fiscal year.
Director-General Meseret Meskele said the system, implemented across 169 federal budgetary institutions and 93 branch offices, handled Birr 308.75 billion in total procurements. Of this amount, Birr 300 billion was secured through competitive bidding, while Birr 8.75 billion was processed via price quotations.
She noted that in 2023/24, 65 percent of government procurement was done electronically, but by 2024/25, the system became fully digital. The initiative is a key component of the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy, aimed at streamlining services, reducing bureaucracy, and improving efficiency through technology.
Institutions such as Addis Ababa Science and Technology University and the Ethiopian Heritage Authority have fully transitioned to the digital platform. Ethiopian Heritage Authority Director-General Abebaw Ayalew said his institution has used the system since 2022/23, making purchases worth over Birr 960 million in 2024/25. He emphasized that the digital approach ensures transparency, eliminates corruption, and reduces costs while improving efficiency.
The Authority expects the system to further enhance accountability and service delivery in public procurement.
