The Ministry of Revenues has announced that it has collected more than Birr 815 billion in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, according to a performance report presented to the Standing Committee on Planning, Budget and Finance of the House of Peoples’ Representatives.

Revenues Minister Aynalem Nigusse stated that the ministry aims to collect over Birr 900 billion by the end of the fiscal year from domestic taxes, export duties, and other revenue sources. She highlighted efforts to enhance revenue collection through digital systems and strict control measures, which have saved the country more than Birr 19 billion by preventing smuggling in export and import activities.

In her briefing, Minister Aynalem noted that disciplinary and legal actions were taken against 405 employees found to have engaged in misconduct, ranging from written warnings to dismissal and criminal prosecution. To combat receipt fraud, the ministry is collaborating with a publishing company to roll out QR code-based receipts. While the initial plan was to print 700,000 manual sales receipts, demand has surged to nearly three times that amount, prompting measures to boost production capacity and expand into digital receipt services.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable revenue collection to support Ethiopia’s economic growth.
