The Oromia Tourism Commission has announced a space tourism initiative in partnership with the Ethiopia Space Science and Geospatial Institute, marking a step to transform the region’s tourism sector.
Unveiled at a signing ceremony held at the Entoto Observatory Center, the initiative aims to position Oromia as a key destination in the emerging global space tourism market. The partnership will integrate advanced space technologies with tourism development to offer unique experiences, including suborbital flights and space-themed attractions.
Betelhem Nigusse, Deputy Director of the Institute, stated that the agreement will deliver vital research services tailored to the tourism sector, helping enhance quality and innovation.
Nega Wedajo, Deputy Commissioner of the Oromia Tourism Commission, emphasized the project’s long-term benefits. “This is the beginning of continuous cooperation to strengthen Oromia’s tourism capacity and attract global visitors,” he added.
The initiative also includes educational outreach programs to promote space science and inspire youth interest in STEM fields.
