The Ministry of Tourism has awarded five-star ratings to eleven hotels in the capital following a comprehensive re-evaluation conducted for the 2024/25 Ethiopian budget year. The reassessment, aimed at maintaining national hospitality standards, covered 40 hotels - 34 existing and six newly established properties.

The evaluation was based on 12 core criteria, including the quality of hotel exteriors, culinary services, service delivery, safety, and security standards.

Among the hotels recognized with five-star status are prominent names such as Sheraton Addis, Hyatt Regency, Skylight Hotel, Capital Hotel, Pan, Radisson Blu, Hilton Addis, InterLuxury Hotel, Marriott Executive Apartments, Golden Tulip, and Nexus Hotel.

Nine hotels, including Jupiter International, Sapphire Addis, and Harmony Hotel, received four-star ratings. Meanwhile, seven hotels such as Nega Bonger, Sameen Hotel, and Addissinia Hotel were rated at three stars. Five hotels received two-star ratings, and two were awarded one-star status.

Newly evaluated establishments also performed well, with Stay Easy and Best Western Premier Hotel earning four-star ratings. Muhammed Addis and Gara Lai Hotel received three stars, while Vibes and Bonanza Hotel were rated two stars.

Additionally, 15 hotels previously operating as full-service establishments have transitioned to pensions or other functions during the re-evaluation process.

The Ministry of Tourism stated that any hotel dissatisfied with its rating may file a formal complaint. The classification is valid for three years, with hotels subject to ongoing monitoring to maintain their status.

The Ministry underscored the importance of the star rating system in enhancing service quality and maximizing tourism revenue, particularly as Addis Ababa continues to position itself as a leading destination for conference and business tourism.
