Private Sector Development Hub to Be Transferred to Ethiopian Chamber

The Private Sector Development Hub is to be transferred to Ethiopia’s national chamber by the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations as of April.

The transfer has been a point of contention between the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations and its counterpart for the city of Addis Ababa with both laying claim to the management of the PSD hub.

The leaders of the ACCSA and the ECCSA agreed to set up a steering committee co-chaired by the presidents of both chambers to make decisions on strategy and policy directions in regards to projects to be undertaken by the hub.

The AACCSA will transfer all resources used for activities related with the hub to the management of the national chamber. It was agreed that any projects already in progress will be completed by the AACCSA.

The Swedish International Development Agency financing the project forced a decision by threatening to cut the 5.2 million US dollar budget assigned to the hub.

SIDA was informed by the Addis Ababa Chamber that negotiations between the two chambers had concluded with an agreement reached on the management of the project on the 19th of January.

The hub was initially established by an agreement between the AACSA and SIDA in 2005. It was set up to facilitate interaction between leaders in the private and public sectors on issues identified through research.
