Former Ethiopian CEO Appointed Chairman of Rwand Air

Girma Wake, former CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopia’s flag carrier, was appointed as an advisor on aviation matters to the Ministry of Transport in Rwanda and Chairman of the Board for Rwand Air.

The appointment of Girma as Chairman of the Board was announced by Rwand Air on the 24th of January.

The move is a part of the airlines’ expansion plans explained Rwand Air in a statement following the appointment.

The appointment is an honor and an opportunity to serve an African airline that could cooperate with Ethiopian Airlines in different areas said Girma.

He is committed to serving the Rwandan Ministry of Transport and Rwand Air as well as working on areas in which the airlines can collaborate with Ethiopian Airlines added Girma expressing his joy to be serving with another African airline.

Girma has 42 years of experience in airline management including area manager in Germany, Ghana and Tanzania, space control manager, director of cargo marketing, and director of marketing operations.

Girma served with Gulf Air and DHL before returning to Ethiopian Airlines as Chief Executive officer in February of 2004. He remained in this position until his retirement in 2011 and successfully managed the implementation of Vision 2010 which resulted in Ethiopian Airlines being ranked the 16th most profitable airline across the world.

Established in 2002, the Rwandan national flag carrier, Rwand Air, is one of the fast growing airlines in the region.
