Sunshine Construction, Ethiopia is to finalize an agreement for the management of the first Ethiopian Marriott Apartment and Courtyard Hotels in the next two months according to sources.
The five-star executive apartment hotel owned and constructed by Sunshine opposite Estifanos Church, and the four-star Courtyard Marriott around Bole Medhanialem in Addis Ababa will be managed by Marriott International.
Sunshine Construction procured a 4000 m2 plot of land from the Addis Ababa city administration last year for the construction of the Courtyard Marriott.The five-star executive apartments will have 110 rooms while the Courtyard Marriott is expected to have 160 rooms together fulfilling the 250 rooms requirement set by Marriott for a hotel under its brand.
Sunshine Construction paid Marriott International 50,000 US dollars for the design of the interior for the executive hotel apartment. It is expected that the project for the Marriott Executive Apartment will cost more than 250 million birr when it is fully completed.
Sunshine Construction is expected to begin construction on the Courtyard Marriott as soon as possible. It is estimated that the cost for this project will be around 200 million birr without taking into account subsequent increases in construction costs said industry observers.
Marriott International is a leading lodging company, according to information posted at its website. Its heritage can be traced to a root beer stand opened in Washington, D.C., in 1927 by J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott. Today, Marriott International has more than 3,200 lodging properties located in the United States and 66 other countries and territories.
