
Chinese automotive giant BYD officially debuted in Ethiopia with a brand launch event in Addis Ababa, partnering with local distributor MOENCO, a subsidiary of London-based Inchcape PLC. The event showcased five pure electric models, including the compact BYD SEAGULL and the luxurious BYD TANG EV, catering to Ethiopia’s growing demand for sustainable mobility.
BYD also unveiled its showroom and after-sales service center, offering Ethiopian customers one-stop solutions for electric vehicles.
Yao Shu, BYD’s Sales Director for Africa, stated, “Our entry into Ethiopia marks a pivotal step in our East African expansion. Ethiopia’s vision for electrification aligns with BYD’s mission to advance green mobility.”
Francis Agbonlahor, General Manager of Inchcape Africa, emphasized the collaboration’s significance, saying, “The partnership between MOENCO and BYD is a milestone in modernizing Ethiopia’s automotive industry.”
BYD’s presence now spans 13 African countries, underscoring its commitment to driving the continent’s transition to green energy and sustainable transportation.
