Ethiopian Banker Appointed President of the PTA Bank

Ethiopian Banker, Admassu Y. Tadesse has been appointed as the 4th president of the Preferential Trade Area Bank of the COMESA. The PTA board of directors appointed the banker from Ethiopia on the 10th of January.

The PTA (The Eastern and Southern African Trade & Development Bank) board was chaired by Willard Manug and made up of seven members.

Admassu Y. Tadesse was elected from a pool of 120 candidates from 15 countries including Ethiopian Dr. Mulu Ketsela according to sources.

Admassu was born in Sudan and is a graduate of Harvard University. He is married to international model Anna Getaneh and is a father of two.

He studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Wits Business School (South Africa), the University of Western Ontario, and École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) Paris.

An independent candidate for the position, Admasu will takeover as president from Michael Gondwe from Zambia who served as president of the bank for two terms.

The PTA bank was established in 1985 with 18 member countries from the subcontinent including Ethiopia. The African Development Bank is also a shareholder of the Bank as is China which is the only non African shareholder.

The PTA requires the president to be a citizen of a member country and speak international languages including English and French.
