MIE to Assemble New Geely Models in Ethiopia

Mesfin Industrial Engineering plc, Ethiopia will begin assembling three new models of GEELY vehicle in 2012. MIE is expected to introduce, to the Ethiopian market, the SL1500cc model in June, followed by the EC1500cc and the 1300cc hunchback.

The three models have already been imported to Ethiopia and will be tested on Ethiopian roads this week according to Yesuf Adamnur, Sales and Promotion Manager at MIE.

 

The 1500cc and the 1300cc hunchback are undergoing testing to ensure compatibility with the Ethiopian terrain before they are assembled for the Ethiopian market he explained.

 

The new Geely models are expected to have better speed and capacity than the current Geely vehicles on the market and will have a higher price tag targeting the upper class market.

The SL 1500cc will be assembled in Semi Knocked Form (SKD), with parts of the car fully imported from China and assembled by MIE.

The company hopes to venture into the Completely Knocked Down Form which means that some car parts will be produced locally although major parts like engines will imported.

MIE has sent technicians to be trained in China to assemble the new Geely models.

The Geely CK 1300cc models are currently being assembled by MIE at its plant found in Mekelle, Tigray Regional State.
MIE has sold 216 of its current Geely model at a price of 270,000 in Mekelle and 275,000 in Addis Ababa.
