Dire Dawa, is on track to become a major industrial and commercial center, according to the Trade, Industry, and Investment Bureau of the city.

Abdi Muktar, the Bureau’s Deputy Head and the Head of the Small and Medium Manufacturing Agency of the city, stated that Dire Dawa’s manufacturing industries were substituting products imported from foreign countries, creating job opportunities, and generating billions of birr in revenue.

In the fiscal quarter of 2023/24 fiscal year, the bureau issued investment licenses to investors who registered a capital of Birr 3.4 billion. This represents a significant increase in investment over the previous year, and it is expected to continue to grow in the coming years.

The free trade zone that was recently opened in city is also playing a major role in Dire Dawa’s transformation into an industrial and commercial hub. It is creating new opportunities for investors to produce and export goods, and it is also helping to attract foreign investors to the city.
