Ethiopia Launches Program to Improve Honey Productivity and Quality

Ethiopia has unveiled a new program which aims to enhance the productivity and quality of honey, supported by the Norwegian government and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The program will prioritize aspects such as quality compliance, market access, honey and beeswax production, export, quality assurance, as well as identifying challenges and opportunities in the honey value chain.

Dr. Fikru Regasa, the Minister of State for Animal and Fisheries Development in the Ministry of Agriculture, expressed that this program will play a pivotal role in elevating Ethiopia's honey production and productivity, ensuring its quality, and enabling its suitability for the international market.

Sten Kristiansen, the Ambassador of Norway and Permanent Representative of the African Union to Ethiopia, highlighted the collaboration between the Norwegian government and UNIDO to bolster productivity and strengthen the honey value chain within Ethiopia's agricultural sector.
