The Federal Public Procurement and Property Authority (PPPA) has announced that starting from July 2023, 169 federal institutions will conduct their procurement electronically. The electronic procurement system (EPS) is designed to eliminate corruption and malpractices, and prevent budget embezzlement. It is expected that up to 25% of unnecessary expenses will be avoided after the system starts to be implemented.
Currently, 95 government institutions are undergoing training to adopt the EPS. Since the last nine months, 70 federal government institutions have already made their purchases electronically, and four institutions have left the procurement system.
The EPS is expected to ease the procurement chaos and provide efficient services. Moving forward, Regional Governments are also being encouraged to adopt the EPS by 2025 fully. This will help address the issue of corrupt procurement and ensure that the Government budget is allocated for its intended purpose.
