Ethiopian Airlines to Study Eastern Routes

Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopia’s flag carrier, is to undertake a study of four new routes to the East; South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and further destinations in China.

Ethiopian Airlines plans to strengthen its role in the Asian market by targeting new destinations in the East according to Tewolde Gebremariam, Chief Executive Officer of the airline. The airline is carrying out market studies on flight to Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Singapore and further locations in China explained Tewolde.

Ethiopian currently flies to seven destination in Asia including Bangkok, Delhi, Hong Kong Mumbai and three Chinese cities; Beijing, Hangzhou and Guangzhou.

In related news Ethiopian Airlines is also expected to open new routes to North America including service to new destinations in the United States in addition to the Washington DC and the launch of flights to Toronto.

Ethiopian has received permission from the Canadian Civil Aviation Authority for the new route to Toronto where there is a sizable Ethiopian community.

Ethiopian Airlines is also considering the Northern African market according to a senior airline executive. Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia are potential destinations for Ethiopian to consider in North Africa according to the executive although the exact destinations that the airline is actually studying were not disclosed.

Ethiopian currently only flies to Cairo, Egypt in North Africa.
