Ethiopian Airlines MRO Unit EASA Approved

The Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul unit of Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopia's flag carrier, has received approval from the European Aviation Safety Agency. The Approval Certificate, EASA Part 145, was granted to the maintenance division of Ethiopian Airlines on the 21st of November. 

The approval from the European Aviation Safety Agency allows the MRO division of Ethiopian Airlines to repair the airplanes and aircraft components of European Union member country registered airlines. The airline is also authorized to issue EASA Airworthiness Certificates.

The authorization includes the B757 and B767 fleet line maintenance, component maintenance and base airframe maintenance.

The approval from the EASA allows Ethiopian Airlines to attract customers in Africa, the Middle East and Europe to utilize the services of the maintenance unit of Ethiopian Airlines for the maintenance of aircraft and aircraft components said Mesfin Tassew, Chief Operating Officer of Ethiopian Airlines.

The Ethiopian Aviation Group can expect to earn additional revenue from maintenance with this approval towards realizing the airline’s Vision 2025 Strategy according to Mesfin.

The maintenance unit of Ethiopian took up a year in preparation to meet the EASA Part 145 requirements. The European agency conducted a strict review of the MRO facilities of Ethiopian as well as its processes to ensure full compliance with its standards before issuing an approval.
