Ethiopia Earns $1.1 Billion in Export Revenue

Ethiopia earned an estimated 1.1 billion US dollars from the export of various items over the past five months announced the Ethiopian Ministry of Trade.The revenue earned from exports, in Ethiopia, is 227.5 million US dollars higher than the same period last financial year said Amakele Yemam Public Relations Director for the Ministry of Trade.

During this period, Ethiopia, exported no less than 35 types of agricultural produce and industrial products to about 120 countries across the globe according to Amakele.

817.7 million US dollars of the total revenue earned was accounted for by the export of gold, coffee, khat, live animals and oil seed. Other agricultural and industrial products made up the difference.

Revenue from exports for the current fiscal year is projected to be 4.5 billion US dollars according to the target set by Ethiopia explained Amakele.

The export sector earned 2.75 billion US dollars for the previous fiscal year.

It is to be remembered that Ethiopia earned 123.8 million US dollars in revenue from the export of manufactured goods in the last five months according to the Ministry of Industry. The revenue earned by the manufacturing sector exhibited a 95.5% year on year increase according to Melaku Taye Public Relations Director to the ministry.

The revenue was acquired from the export of chemicals, agro processing, pharmaceuticals, leather products and textiles and garments said Melaku.

The textile sector showed an 80.5% year on year increase in revenue he explained. Textile exports during the financial period secured 38.8% of total revenue from the manufacturing sector noted Melaku.
