Ethiopian Contractors to Construct Total Ethiopia Depot

Ethiopian contractors, Kassa and Sons Consulting were awarded the civil work for Total Ethiopia’s depot at Dukem. Total Ethiopia is expected to put out further tenders for mechanical and electrical work.  

Kassa and Sons secured the contract after a limited invitation made to eight companies to present engineering estimates along with proof of having the necessary equipment and personnel to realize the design for the depot executed by Ultimate Plan plc.

It is projected that total construction costs for Total Ethiopia’s Dukem Depot will add to 150 million birr according to a document prepared by Total Ethiopia.

Total Ethiopia refused to disclose the figure proffered by Kassa and Sons to avoid affecting future bids for the electrical and mechanical work.

The Total depot in Dukem will be constructed on 50,000m2 close to a future railway. The fuel company is in talks with the Ethiopian Railways Corporation to link with the line said Antoine Tournand, managing director of Total Ethiopia.

The depot will house an LPG filling station with 100 tons capacity, an ethanol blending center with more than 7,000 m3 of capacity and a tank farm.

Construction is expected to commence in January to be finalized in year according to Getachew Kassa  Manager of Kassa and Sons.

Kassa and Sons was established in 1999. Kassa and Sons is a company with previous experience in the construction of depots and stations. The firm was responsible for the construction of a National Oil Corporation gas station near the prospective site for The Total Ethiopia Depot at Dukem.
