Ethiopia to Enhance Trade Relations with Ghana

There are significant trade opportunities between Ethiopia and Ghana said Gifty Abassiya, Ethiopian Ambassador to Ghana.  The business prospects can be translated into mutual benefits for both countries said the Ethiopian Ambassador to the Ghanaian Daily Graphic.

Ethiopian exports such as leather products, flowers, fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products can easily be exported to Ghana through Ethiopian Airways Cargo along well established lines said Gifty.

On the other side the 85 million strong Ethiopian population offers a notable market for Ghanaian products such as chocolate, rubber goods, artifacts, electric cables and cookware she explained.

Trade activities between the two countries are currently minimal although Ethiopian Airlines has been operating a route to Ghana for the last 51 years.

Ethiopia and Ghana have good political and social relationships that ought to be leveraged into trade relations said Gifty. At the moment there is very limited trade between the two countries and the Ethiopian Embassy in Ghana is trying to develop business relationships she noted.

The Ethiopian Embassy in Ghana has broached discussions with the Trade Ministry of Ghana and the Ghanaian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to facilitate for relationships with their Ethiopian counterparts.
