Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) announced that investors could invest in drone technology and services and aerospace manufacturing. It stated that it would support investors who would engage in the industry of assembly of drones.

A regulation governing the drone industry has already been put in place. The Authority will overlook security issues that come together with the industry in collaboration with other intelligence institutions. According to ACAA’s Executive Director, Getachew Mengiste, investors can also engage in the business of airport construction and operation across Regional States. He stated that the Ethiopian Government’s focus was on the aviation industry and air transport services that support the country and the economy were needed.

The first Ethiopian aeroplane took five hours to reach Addis Ababa and land on a place called Gefersa after taking off from Djibouti in 1929 – 26 years after the first attempted flight by the Wright brothers. The flight of this French made aeroplane, Plotex 25, flown by a French pilot called Andre Milet marked the history of aviation in Ethiopia. Consequently, ECAA was founded in 1944 and in 1945, Ethiopian Airlines was established.
