Ethiopost gained a revenue of Birr 568 million in the past six months of the current fiscal year. The company was able to collect the revenue from letter and package deliveries, EMS, logistics, and transport services. Ethiopost’s gross profit also reached Birr 146 million during the same period.

According to Hana Arayaselassie, the CEO of Ethiopost, the company’s revenue increased due to its achievement in addressing issues related to speed and safety of services.

The company, which has more than 700 branches nationwide, commenced reforming its business after Hana Arayaselassie was appointed as its CEO. In an interview with Addis Zeybe, a digital media, the CEO stated that the company was at a loss of Birr 78 million when she was appointed to lead it. Hana said, “the postal office was at a concerning status when I joined. I heard the institution had serious administrative problems … I learnt in a few days that the office was in a really worrisome status. The postal office had no internal financial control system. It did not have a basic controlling mechanism which any profit-making company needs to have”.

The CEO also stated that the major reforms of her office included improving the financial system of the company, raising revenue by revising and renewing the company’s basic postal services which included revising the postal tariff which had not been revised for ten years, restructuring the debts of the company, and recovering the company’s customer service and corporate image.
