Ethiopia: Ministry of Revenues Warns Freight Forwarders

Ministry of Revenues warned freight forwarders who transported goods without the required documents. It stated that freight forwarders needed to have proper receipts for the goods they transported.

According to the Ministry, there were traders who did not comply with the legal requirement of issuing receipts for sold goods and collecting the required value added tax from customers. The Ministry announced that law enforcement organs at all levels would be given a direction to stop and search vehicles which were used for logistics services with a view to ensuring that the freight forwarders have the proper documentation. The owner of the goods will bear the main responsibility if vehicles are seized by law enforcement after the search is conducted.
