Ministry of Mines and SGS Collaborate to Build a Geochemistry Laboratory in Ethiopia

Ministry of Mines SGS EthiopiaA modern mining geochemistry laboratory is going to be built in Ethiopia. The Ministry of Mines signed an agreement with SGS, a renowned verification, testing, and certification company, for the construction of the laboratory which costs USD 50 million.

Takele Uma, Minster of Mines, said that the laboratory will have a significant contribution in the development of the mining sector in Ethiopia.

Because of lack of laboratories in the country, companies are obliged to send their mineral samples abroad for testing and verification. However, when the laboratory becomes operational, it will allow companies to get testing, verification, and certification in Ethiopia. The laboratory is expected to be operational within a year.

Takele Uma and Ziyad Oti, Managing Director of SGS, inked the agreement at the Mining and Technology Expo (MINTEX) yesterday.
