The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration revealed that preparations were underway to export high-quality wheat to international markets. It discussed with exporters on the export of the cereal and noted that the quality and standard of export wheat was non-negotiable. The Ministry also affirmed that exports of wheat would commence after domestic consumption was met.
Ethiopia is undertaking various reforms in wheat production and trading. In October this year, Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) announced that it would start trading wheat within the current Ethiopian year. It has also prepared a draft agreement that would modernize wheat sale transaction and play its part in supporting Ethiopia’s ambition to become self-sufficient in wheat production and export the cereal to foreign markets.
