Ethio-Djibouti Second Circuit High Power Transmission Line and Distribution Station Project Begins Construction

Ethiopia and Djibouti launched the construction of the Ethio-Djibouti 2nd Circuit High Power Transmission Line and Distribution Station Project. The project is expected to generate foreign currency to Ethiopia while strengthening the electricity and transport linkage between the two neighboring countries.

Abubakar Hassan, Deputy Director General of Djibouti Electricity Institute, said that the project would enable Djibouti to address energy supply shortages. The project will also boost Djibouti’s economy.

Under the project, Kombolcha II and Semera substation will be expanded and a new substation will be built in Mille.

In related news, Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) announced that the Sodo-Moyale-Suswa High Voltage Power Line would commence work within the coming two weeks. The project which is owned by Ethiopia and Kenya will benefit the energy connection of the two countries and the economy of Ethiopia.
