The Ministry of Mines and Public Procurement and Property Authority revealed that scrap metal, out of service vehicles, and machineries stored in Federal Government offices would be sold exclusively to steel industries. The two institutions issued a joint press release on the disposal of unserviceable assets accumulated by Government institutions.

Spare parts of out of service vehicles will be sold for Birr 51.25 per kilogram while the price of vehicles and machineries to be disposed of as scrap metal is Birr 51.25 per kilogram. In addition, Government offices are ordered to sell pieces of steel metal and aluminum for Birr 64 and Birr 124 per kilogram, respectively.

It is to be recalled that the Ministry of Finance announced in September this year that a decision had been made to sell scrap metal and out of service vehicles to steel manufacturing industries without resorting to a bidding process.
