Ethiopia plans to export its fruit and meat products to China and is currently negotiating with the country. According to Ambassador Teshome Toga, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to China, Ethiopia wants to strengthen its strategic cooperation with China with a view to transform its economy. The negotiations on the meat and food trade is part of Ethiopia’s endeavors to boost trade relations with the Asian country.
Banana, avocado, and mango will be exported to China during the first round of exports after negotiations and other requirements are settled.
Ethiopian sesame producers and exporter are also interested to further penetrate the Chinese market. China is a major destination for Ethiopia’s sesame seed export. Ethiopia is also expanding its reach in the Chinese coffee market. It earned USD 30.4 million during the first ten months of the 2021/2022 fiscal year by exporting 5,879.34 tons of Ethiopian coffee to China.
