
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called partner institutions to work together for the advancement of electronic visa services. The Ministry held a virtual meeting on Tuesday with stakeholders on the provision of advanced and timely consular services. The meeting saw the attendance of the State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, Ambassadors, and other officials.
Online visa and consular services are new in Ethiopia. However, the between 800 and 1500 visas are issued through the e-service daily even though there are gaps in the implementation of the service.
The Director of FDRE Immigration and Citizenship Service, Biruh Tesfa, pledged to work closely with applicants to upgrade online services and resolve complaints.
Ethiopia launched e-visa services in 2017 targeting visitors from few countries. The country expanded the service in 2018 to reach all international visitors.
