Ethiopia: Oromia Regional State to Adjust Cement Prices

Oromia Regional State signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Mines and 20 cement producing companies to regulate the price of cement products. The signing of the memorandum of understanding aimed to curb illegal actions in the market and production of cement.

According to Awolu Abdi, the Deputy President of the Regional State, illegal brokers are the major players in the market chain of cement who take the lion’s share for the rise of the price of cement products. He stated that the Government of the Regional State had organized over 300 enterprises that would be engaged in the selling and distribution of the product to address problems that arose from the supply side.

The Minister of Ministry of Mines, Takele Uma, stated that price adjustment of cement products which took place in Oromia would have a positive reverberating effect on the price of cement products at the national level.
