Ethiopia: Awash Bank Partners with Ugandan Fintech Firm Service Cops

Awash Bank’s CEO Tsehay Shiferaw and CIO Yohannes Merga signed a partnership agreement with Service Cops, a Ugandan financial technology (fintech) firm, on April 25, 2022 at the headquarters of Awash. The partnership will realise the bank’s digital strategy by creating a variety of digital payment solutions in various service sectors.


Service Cops is the first f the few Ugandan fintech brands to operate outside of Uganda. It is also the first Ugandan based fintech to establish itself in the Ethiopian market. Within the Ethiopian market, Awash is the second bank to partner with the fintech company.

Service Cops is expected to provide digital technology solutions such as edutech including e-school products and channels management to the bank. It is also reported that the partnership would create an information management system that generated customized reports for schools by assigning each student a unique payment code and a business intelligence module.

The fintech firm which has its headquarters in Uganda partners with 16 Commercial Banks, 5 Mobile Network Operators and a number of payment aggregators in East and Central Africa to deliver its solutions. Service Cops has subsidiaries in Zambia, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia.
