Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) and Ethio-Djibouti Railway (EDR) have signed an MoU to jointly solve technical issues regarding railway power outage issues. Inking the memorandum of understanding were Ashebir Balcha and Abdi Zenebe (Ph.D.), CEOs of EEP and EDR, respectively.
The signing of the MoU is of paramount significance in ensuring the mutual benefit of both parties, as well as in laying the foundation for cooperation in other areas of engagement, the two CEOs explained.
To address the power shortage issues of the railway, a technical committee will be set up and set into motion, according to the MoU.
As part of immediate measures, to ensure no power outages occur at the railway’s traction stations, experts will be assigned to work round the clock, it has been learned.
For longer-lasting solutions, EEP and EDR have agreed to act on expert recommendations based on subsequent studies, and for EEP to implement any operational and maintenance works.
