ministry-of-agricultureEthiopia's Ministry of Agriculture announced that 12.8 million quintals of fertilizer out of the required 15 million quintals for the 2022 harvest year have already been purchased. Shortage of fertilizer will not be an issue, the Ministry reassured.

Higher officials of the Ministry made the note during their discussion of the current status of the provision and distribution of fertilizers.

Currently, a total of 6.2 million quintals of fertilizers, 2.3 million quintals retained from last year, and 4.9 million quintals that have already arrived at Port Djibouti, is already at hand, it has been noted..

Fertilizer prices have shown a significant global surge, the officials noted. Accordingly, due emphasis has been given to importing the already purchased fertilizers, they said.

A task force is set up to ensure the distribution of fertilizers goes smoothly, and price increment is not created anywhere in the distribution chain, it has been learned.

Efforts are underway to remove the dependency on inorganic fertilizers and make use of natural fertilizers, as well as to improve soil fertility, the Ministry related.
