Ethiopia: Contraband Items Worth Over 3.5Bn Birr Seized in 9 Months

customs-commission-reportThe Ethiopian Customs Commission said it has seized contraband items worth over 3.5 billion birr at its various branches over a period of nine months.

Mulugeta Beyene, Deputy Commissioner of the Ethiopian Customs Commission, made the announcement during a discussion on the Commission's nine-month performance, held in the town of Bishoftu.

The ever-evolving contraband schemes of the times, as well as the involvement of armed groups in contraband trade has made the control difficult, Mr. Mulugeta pointed out.

Regardless, the concerted efforts of the Customs Commission and the Federal Police are registering encouraging results, it has been noted.
