Ethiopia-Turkey Trade and Investment Forum Held in Ankara

ethiopia-turkey-flagsEthiopian Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, held a two-day trade and investment forum in collaboration with the Industrialist Businesswomen and Businessmen Confederation of Turkey (SANKON).

In his opening remarks, Adem Mohammed, Ethiopia's Ambassador to Turkey, highlighted the strong relationship between Ethiopia and Turkey, noting Turkish investors are the second-largest foreign investors in Ethiopia, engaed in various sectors and creating employemt for thousands.

The strong ties the two countries enjoy need to be cemented by business and investment relations between the business communities, the Ambassador said. He also reaffirmed his government's commitment to help investors in their ventures in Ethiopia.

Ferudun Cevahiroglu, President of the Industrialist Businesswomen and Businessmen Confederation of Turkey (SANKON), for her part, also reiterated the Turkish government's commitment to support Ethiopia's growth and development.

During the forum, a panel discussion as well as a slides presentation in four major investment opportunities, has been held. The four areas covered were textile and agro-processing; leather, mining, and energy; technology and tourism; and pharmaceutical and health. Wubie Mengistu, acting Secretary-General of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce, conducted the presentation.

On the second day, a B2B session was held between the Ethiopian and Turkish businesspeople followed by a signing of an MoU between the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association and SANKON in the presence.

Over 100 members of the Turkish business community, as well as over 25 businesspeople from Ethiopia have taken part in the trade and investment forum.
