Ethiopian Milk Processing Center Inaugurated

A milk processing center was inaugurated in Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia. The processing center was constructed with the financial support of the Japanese government said a press release from the Japanese Embassy.

The Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects provided 86,581 US dollars in funding for the project.

The milk processing center, including equipment for milk processing, warehouse and cafeteria, was constructed for the use of the Jiru Siresa Milk Production and Processing Cooperative.

The new processing plant is expected to enable the cooperative to produce 4.7 times more milk than in the past. The increased milk output would cover 32% of the demand in the area.

Sasakawa Africa Association has offered the members of the cooperative training in diary processing including pasteurized milk, butter, cheese and yoghurt. Members will also be trained in preparing snacks for the new Cafeteria.  

The training will enable the members of the cooperative to produce higher quality products more effectively and efficiently as well as receiving training in basic business skills and nutrition according to the press release from the Japanese Embassy.

The milk processing plant was inaugurated by Hajime Kitaoka of the Economic Affairs Division of the Japanese Embassy, Ali Ebrahim Head of the Haromaya Woreda Administrative Office and representatives from the Sasakawa Africa Association.
