Companies in Ethiopia's Kombolcha Industrial Park Start Exporting Products

kombolcha-industrial-parkThree companies in Ethiopia's Kombolcha Industrial Park have resumed operations following the ease of security situations in the area, and have started exporting their products abroad, it has been reported.

Mulugeta Mekonnen, CEO of the Kombolcha Industrial Park, said the factories are operating 24 hours a day, and are exporting their products. Manufacturing plants in the Kombolcha Industrial Park are owned by investors from Italy, the US, China, South Korea, and Ethiopia.

Walter Foley, CEO of one of the three manufacturers, said they have resumed operations although they have suffered a loss of worth over $5 million. He said they supply their products to famed brands such as Adidas and Puma.

Kombolcha Industrial Park is said to have created employment for over 3,000 workers, out of which some 90 percent have returned to work.

In the first three months of the Ethiopian fiscal year that started on July 8, manufacturers in the Kombolcha Industrial Park have obtained $3.9 million from exports, it has been learned.
