Ethiopian Electric Utility to Build 36-Storey Headquarters

eeu-hqEthiopian Electric Utility has laid a foundation stone for the building of its 36-storey headquarters. The building, to be built at an estimated cost of 1.2 billion birr, rests on 4,500mand takes four years to complete.

Laying the foundation stone was laid by Ahmed Shide, Ethiopia's Minister of Finance. Several high-ranking government officials and invited guests have also attended the foundation stone laying ceremony.

Shiferaw Telila, CEO of Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU), said the company, its staff and customers have all suffered due to inconvenience of rented spaces for the headquarters, as well as offices of EEU at various levels. He also said rental costs have a negative impact on the financial standing of the company. 

In addition to the headquarters building, Mr. Shiferaw said, EEU is finalizing preparations to construct 35 office buildings, 19 in one round and 16 in another, for regional and district bureaus.

The 36-storey headquarters building, which is to be completed in four years, rests on 4,500m2, while the whole compound covers 10,174m2.
