Ethiopia's 6 Months Exports Rise to $1.89Bn

ministry-of-trade-and-regional-integrationEthiopia has secured over $1.89 billion from exports during the first half of the Ethiopian fiscal year that started July 8, 2021. The amount has shown an increase of $322.5 million, 20.5 percent, compared to the same period last year.

Denge Boru, State Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, said officials are "content" with the performance, considering internal and external challenges the country is currently faced with.

Regardless, the amount stands at 95 percent of the $1.98 billion target set for the period, $90 million shy.

Agriculture remains the top contributor to export earnings, accounting for 70 percent of total export revenues. Mining contributed 15 percent, followed by manufacturing at 12.5 percent. The export of electricity and other goods contributed the remaining 2.5 percent ($48 million).

Officials have vowed to intensify efforts as well as expand international market reach, in addition to increasing variety in type and volume of products during the second half of the fiscal year.
