Ethiopia has secured over $668 million in remittance in two months, the Ethiopian Diaspora Agency announced. Selamawit Dawit, Director-General of the Ethiopian Diaspora Agency, noted that Ethiopia plans to obtain $4 billion during the Ethiopian fiscal year that started July 8, 2021.
The Ethiopian diaspora is contributing a lot to various development projects as well as in terms of humanitarian support for the motherland, the Director-General remarked. She also pointed out the diaspora has made support of $108 million birr for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), in addition to bond purchase for the dam.
The Ethiopian diaspora has also contributed over 59.8 million birr in support of the National Defense Force, as well as 32 million birr for humanitarian activities, Ms. Selamawit recalled.
