BASF Global Conducts Workshop in Ethiopia

BASF Global conducted a workshop to educate professionals on the ingredients of pills and tablets. The international chemical company provided the training to six factories in Ethiopia.

The workshop featured new technology to coat active pharmaceutical ingredients according to Asmelash Gebre Managing Director of HighCem Ethiopia PLC, local agents for BASF.

The training aims to allow BASF clients to understand what goes into what they are purchasing and enable local factories to eventually produce medicine at affordable prices. The training wishes to encourage technology transfer allowing for local companies to produce compressed tablets easily and effectively it was said.

BASF is committed to using quality pharmaceutical ingredients which result in some of its products being more expensive than those on offer by competitors said Asmelash.  

BASF also plans to show the practical application of the technology to pharmaceutical factories and demonstrate techniques of tablet compression to representatives and professionals from the School of Pharmacy, Addis Ababa University.

The training program has been conducted in Nigeria and Ghana and will be conducted in Kenya this week.
