Ethiopia Secures $676Mn from Exports in Two Months

export-coffee-sacsEthiopia announced it has secured over $676 million during the first two months of the Ethiopian fiscal year that started July 8, 2021, surpassing its target of $643 million for the period by over 5 percent.

Melaku Alebel, Ethiopia's Minister of Trade and Industry, also pointed out that the amount has shown an increase of 16 percent compared to the $581 million obtained during the same period last year.

During these two months, agriculture has continued to take the lion's share of Ethiopia's export trade, contributing 74 percent of the $676 million. Coffee, flowers, and khat contributed 61 percent of the export revenue generated from agricultural produce.

Manufacturing accounted for 13 percent of the total export revenues, with contributions from textile (5 percent), meat and dairy (3 percent), and food and beverage (3 percent).

Mineral export contributed 11 percent of the total earnings, gold accounting for over 10 percent of the 11.

Ethiopia has registered a record high export earning of $3.62 billion during the Ethiopian fiscal year that ended on July 7, 2021.
