Ethiopia Secures $90 Mn from Electricity Export

ethiopian-electric-power-logoEthiopia has collected $90 million in revenues from the export of electricity to its neighbors Sudan and Djibouti in the Ethiopian fiscal year recently ended on July 7, 2021, Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) related.

The amount obtained has shown a significant increase compared to what has been obtained the previous year, which was $66.4 million. It has also exceeded the $80 million target EEP set for the period.

Moges Mekonnen, Communications Director at EEP, said there is a plan to increase the amount of electricity export as more requests are being received for the same.

During the year, EEP has secured 13.2 billion birr ($294 million) from the domestic sale of electric power. Mr. Moges noted this marks the total sales achievement of EEP at 1.1 percent exceeding the target.

The communications director mentioned the building of power generators, generation of power, putting power to the grid with minimal wastage at a national level as factors that contributed to the improvement in performance.
