Ethiotelecom, Ethiopia's sole telecom services provider, has inaugurated an advanced modular data center. The data center is built at a cost of $3.5 million.
The new data center is the first of its kind and intended to ensure high availability, reliability of connectivity, and extensive security, Ethiotelecom said. The facility will upgrade the information technology and network infrastructure of the telecom industry.
the advanced modular data center will save the company annual cost of five to six million birr, and reduce operational and maintenance costs by 35 percent of the cost the existing "traditional" data center incurs, it was learned.
Ethiotelecom's newly inaugurated data center has remote digital operations control capability, without any physical presence at the center. Moreover, it is said to be equipped with high-capacity generators and power storage batteries to tackle power interruption.
Aimed to be a significant milestone in Ethiopia's progress towards a digital economy, the new data center is equipped with mobile money and next-generation business support systems.
The advanced modular data center will take two and a half months to deploy.
